DUMFRIES & GALLOWAY

Alloway Robert Burns Cottage
Alloway is the birth place (1759) of the bard, Robert Burns. For that reason alone it merits some attention. The Cottage with its thatched room and simple but pleasant appearance has been turned into a museum.  There are also connections to Ayr, a small town that is but a short walk away.

Accommodations Edinburgh
The following list of places to stay in Edinburgh are not directly endorsed by our web guide. However, they should be helpful in giving you some idea of the price and quality of available lodgings and rentals in Edinburgh.
B&Bs see B&B Scotland
Guest House Six Mary's Place Guest House (Vegetarian and Non-Smoking)
We think the combination of a non-smoking and vegetarian meals guest house will appeal to some who are choking in smoke and weary of waking to sausage.  3 stars -  Scottish Tourist Board
Guest House The Green House (Vegan/Vegetarian) Guest House
Another vegetarian menu and vegan too (no eggs, no dairy products). This guest house in central Edinburgh offers seven charming rooms at reasonable prices. If you like tofu, this may be the place.  Check out their rooms here.
Guest House Adam Hotel
Family owned and rated well by a number of organizations, namely 3 Star Status by the Scottish Tourist Board,  RAC Highly Acclaimed and AA 4 Diamonds.
Hotel Apex Apex HotelsApex International Hotel | Apex European
Both business and tourist hotels, they provide "stylish modernity" with "good old-fashioned service. "International" has some  views of Edinburgh Castle and Old Town Skyline. The contemporary  "European" with its conference facilities and stylish restaurant (open till 10pm).
Kildonan Hotel Kildonan Lodge Hotel 4-Star Scottish Tourist Board  AA-4
In the West end, 1½ miles from the Town Centre, this cheery individually decorated and non-smoking Victorian has lots of extras (and luxury rooms have their own Jacuzzi plus a full Scottish breakfast served in an elegant dining room. We were impressed by the statement:  following notice: "Family rooms are available and children are made most welcome." Reasonable prices.
Hotel  Balmoral The Balmoral Hotel  5 Star Hotel
This  hotel doesn't need to be modest or inexpensive. It's well situated near shopping and many of the town's tourist haunts. Rooms decorated with style, several in-house restaurants, and even the town's biggest pool (a claim to fame that's not bound to last).  Fetching meeting and smaller banquet rooms.

Hotel  The Caledonian Hotel 5 Star Hotel
Yes another multiple facility five star hotel with great views and stylish rooms. While many of us don't stay in 5 Star hotels very often, if at all, we are sure those who stay at the "Caley"  will certainly make the most of the hotel's "leisure" rooms.  Note that there are special promotions at certain times of the year that make the stay quite affordable.
Rental Apts. Seven Union Street

Accommodations Glasgow
Guest House Nether Johnstone Hotel
Inexpensive 4-Star Guest House near to Glasgow airport has pretty guest lounge and four bedrooms with an appealingly simple breakfast menu.
Inns The Inn on the Green
Small Inn with interesting restaurant menu
Hotel Nairns Hotel and Restaurant 5-Star (Scottish Tourist Board)
This hotel only offers four rooms. You can go up to the site and take a
"virtual" tour of the room by means of a Java based "Live" picture. As for the restaurant it's mainly continental in flavor.
Hotel One Devonshire Gardens Luxury Hotel
This award winning hotel has a site to match its magnificence. It's worth downloading and installing the Flash plug in just see the excellent presentation (there's also a non-flash version of the site). The Restaurant's motto is "Simple things done brilliantly." Prices are not exorbitant. Menu is tasteful, and as is the wine list. This one certainly should catch the discerning eye.
Hotel Glasgow Hilton
All right, here's a larger executive hotel with a very highly ranked restaurant, "Camerons" along with a New York Style delicatessen (But, let's face it, there are no New York Style delicatessens out side the boroughs of New York  ... and okay, through in New Jersey).
Travel West Highland Way
Just outside Glasgow, Scotland's largest city, extending to the foot of Scotland's highest mountain, lies a 95 journey (152 km) along Scotland's largest fresh water loch,  is the West Highland Way. The site details the route which will take you from the Lowlands to the Scottish Highlands, and notes the route is walked by out fifty thousand people per year.
