SCUBA:
(A
brief word about Austrailia and the Southern Hemispwhere.
You don't want to travel there when it's their summer. You
want to go there when its summer time in the Northern Hemisphere,
which is winter time "down under." Should you go
when it's their summer you'll find it's too hot. But that's
not the only problem. There's also too many bugs, snakes,
and flys. And you won't like that a bit(e). You won't even
be able to complain, because opening your mouth might enable
a fly or fliesto ... well you get the picture.

Tours:
Note
that all tours are NOT run the same fashion. Reading through
the listings will
confirm that tours do not all have the same policies regarding
flights and accomodations. Depending upon your requirements,
you will find that some will fit your own needs better than
others. Shortening or extending your stay and the ease and
satisfaction you will experience may depend upon your individual
requirements, and that's one reason to look at more than one
tour plan. By the way, travel insurance is always a good idea.

Lotus Yoga in Santa Barbara California
It's everywhere now,
and everyone is teaching it. Whether we are talking hatha
yoga or even pranayama, or even raja or jnana yoga, surprise,
not all yoga teachers know what they are doing. There's nothing
wrong with teaching before you become a master at it (because
it keeps you doing it ... for one thing) but you don't necessarily
want to study from that person. None of this comes a shock
to you, I'm sure, but with yoga, especially the hatha yoga
exercises (which many have gotten into to stay fit) a vast
multidue are always willing to make compromises in selecting
a teacher in order to fit yoga into their busy schedules.
Ellen DeGeneres' HBO special comes to mind: "Could you
speed that up, I've got TBD (Too Busy Disorder) and I'm late
for yoga!"
Three things are really important with yoga (aside from doing
it): studying it from a reputable teacher who knows what he/she
is doing, understanding what your teacher is trying to show
you and thirdly, trying to consistantly put it into practice
(not cutting corners). Injuries can and will happen, and its
good to understand why this happens and find a method that
helps prevent injury (even pass along the reasons to the student).
The sad fact is that most teachers haven't a clue about why
injuries happen, and cannot help you prevent them. That's
why you are more likely to end up injured from yoga than nearly
any other form of exercise, and the reasons are not always
so obvious.
So we suggest you go right to the source and study from the
folks wo train teachers, and who have the experience and knowledge
to get you doing your yoga in a manner that will do you some
good. That's White Lotus Foundation in beautiful Santa Barbara
California.
Ganga White and Tracey Rich train teachers, and oversee operations
there, but don't worry if you don't have them to as your first
teachers, because they have trained many other teachers to
get you started appropriately. There are other benefits too,
but at the risk of sounding evangelistic. we won't go into
them here. Om Tat Sat.
Wilderness
and Wilderness Adventures:
Mountain
Gorilla Expedition Offered through Mountain Travel
Sobek MTS
Allen Bechky has been visiting the Virunga region since 1972,
and has created this extraordinary eexpedition based on his
sed on his many visits with the gorillas. You will have four
opportunities to track gorillas in a variety of habitats that
range from the jungles of Bwindi's Impenetrable Forest to
the bamboo thickets of Sabinyo and the mist-clad heights of
Karasimbi Volcano to the celebrated stronghold of the mountain
gorillas, that the trip sold out in just a few months! Fortunately,
we've been able to add two more departures - January 10-24
and September 11-25, 2004.
Marine Mammel Encounter
- Australia:
Monkey Mia Dolphin "Resort"
Shark Bay Let's not get carried away here
by calling this place a "resort." It's really a
place to come if you are interested in natural
beauty and marine mammals (such as dolphins). If not, better
forget it. In fact, it's really
a place for marine biologists to hang their hat. You should
be interested in dolphins in
more than just a causual kind of way. If you're not, go to
Sea World!
Located about twelve to fourteen hours drive from the closest
real city (Perth), it's also
a heck of long drive from where you'll rent your car or caravan.
That's right. You are on your own. No one will take you here.
But it's still a great place to go if you have the time and
inclination, and the interest in dolphins. Western Australia
is beautiful, and the real land of the "BIG SKY"
and red earth. Lots of friendly people about because the long
drive sort of weeds out the riff-raff. You might as well know,
however, that there is no "gourmet meals" awaiting
you in this paradise. The only good food you'll have is the
stuff you pack and bring with you. You can buy junk, but nothing
really healthy or tasty. That shouldn't stop you if you are
ready for the adventure that awaits you.
Oh yes, watch out for the stone fish! They are venomous and
carry enough poison to kill
a grown man. Not kidding. You should exercise caution. Shuffle
your feet to scare them away.
