USA Quaker Bonnet Dining This is our very own Quaker Bonnet dining guide which, when completed, will have over 1000 select entries of our own suggestions for dining out in the USA. It's not completed yet, since it only has about 120 entries (as of July 2004). Please be patient as we enter in our selections. We think you'll like its searchability as you will be to search either by area, high Zagat rating, or Wine Spectator awards, or by food type. Cool. Also, we be adding a similar guide for Europe, and one for Cooking Schools and International Wine Tours. The links aren't an endorsement but simply a list to help you narrow your dining decisions. Also, the links below belong to other web sites. We include them in the hopes they may also help you find a place to eat.
- Chef Moz Hit or miss sort of deal much along the lines of Zagat but perhaps a little more "iffy" and risky.
- Chowhound The thing about Chowhound that you may find interesting is the message-boards, which are pretty active, and should provide some current information, though the question of how one can trust the info is always an open one. Still, worth a look if you are the curious type, and are looking to delve in those late night ... early morning hours.
- Golden Fork 2003 Gourmet Diners Society of North America Golden Fork Award Restaurants of Distinction has a map of North America and select the state or province that you seek reviews from. Reviews are not extensive or revealing, so that it you takes your chances here. Remember ... "All that glitters...."
- CuisineNet
At one time free annoying pop-ups and obnoxious music this site now has both which detract enormously from all that site has to offer. Too bad!
- Zagat Dine
The famous Zagat guide, 32 cities in U.S. and 5 international cities but no longer free. You can obtain some information but the reviews now require a subscription. Some of our listings by city have yet to be updated since this happened, and so we apologize.
We suggest subscribing to the Zagat Survey as the yearly subscription rate is very reasonable. If you enjoy eating out and do eat out when you travel (Who doesn't?), then we strongly advise you to subscribe. It's very much worth the yearly fee.
We have added a feature in our own dining guides that includes if a restaurant has received a high Zagat Rating. By "high" we mean a rating of 25 or above. There are a few instances where we also include restaurants such as pizzerias that have a rating of 20 or more ... due to that fact that all things considered, this is a high rating for a pizza parlor. Check out our growing USA dining guide here. Note that you can also search for restaurants in our dining guide that have been awarded Wine Spectator Awards (although not all the restaurants that have won such awards are listed - it's rather selective).
- 411 City Dining Guides4
411 as in the "information" ... as in "the phone book," this directory raises more questions than it answers. Too much advertising, too little objective help. Searching by city also yields some surprising and incomplete results (when you know the city well). All in all, don't look for this to guide to be "all inclusive," or reliable.
- New Jersey Restaurant and Catering Guide
Everyone comes to New Jersey at least once in their life, if not repeatedly (no use pretending), and while this doesn't provide the be-all end all of lists because, let's face it, there is some nice eating to be found here, you can find some menus and some ideas if you are unfamiliar with the territory.
- Open Table This website is supposed to provide booking (reservations). But what's the use if all our favorite haunts are missing! Hardly surprising because all those places are so popular they don't need to subscribe to gimmicky service such as this. So many places are missing here that you can't even begin to think about this Open Table as being "open minded." Of date, we are not impressed. What did Edward R. Murrow say? Think it was "Goodbye, and good luck."
- Where to Dine Restaurant Guide We had hoped this would materialize, but "Where's all the furniture honey?" A little short on the goods, and so there's no point in registering; not at this point anyway.
